Hosting Your Partner

The key to hosting an exchange partner is treating them how you wish to be treated abroad. Also, take time to get to know your partner - their likes and preferences and things that might make them uncomfortable.

It isn’t easy to welcome a new person into your home and into your life. Remembering to be patient, kind, and empathetic will go a long way toward ensuring that the exchange experience is positive and memorable for everyone involved.

Here are a few tips to help ensure a positive relationship with your exchange partner:

  • Provide space for your partner

  • Only speak English in the home during the hosting period

  • Support time together during the exchange

  • Have a schedule that allows for hosting

  • Prioritize quality time together

  • Be prepared to treat the partner as a family member
    rather than a guest

  • Apply family rules to your host partner
